This is so hard as it was only a short time ago Sam was racing at Auckland.
I trust those around her keep their heads held high and know this was a freak accident, nothing more, nothing less. I am so sad Sam and her lovely smile are gone, but I am proud of her courage, not a road statistic is she, nay a suicide victim, nor an un-loved Jane Doe miles away from friends or Family, completely the opposite. Her friends and family were and are around her and the family. I challenge the family to ask for help if needed, please.
All sports have injuries, all sports sadly have bad accidents and that is what I am having to deal with. I have a 10 year old petrol head son, would I put him behind the wheel when he is old enough to drive? In a heartbeat if he wants to..... We are providing an answer to the "boyracers" with this class, and how dare anyone for criticising any of us for providing this solution. Yes accidents do happen, no it did not happen on the couch, or in a hospital ward, Sam did not have a necklace of beads from Cancer procedures and for that there is a small mercy.....
Rest in Peace young Sam, enjoy what is ahead of you and I wish I could be in Tauranga on Thursday to celebrate your life with many others.
Love from Mike Howe and family.

It's almost impossible to express ones feelings when our sport loses anyone, let alone someone so young, so as hooncorp has put it so well, what he said plus my deepest sympathies.
