As I understand it, the correct decision was made re the Rees fire.. Point me to the rule and we'll understand it too. I can't, because the members have refused at Conference to define the terms of what constitutes "outside assistance". Thus it has been determined by the members of SNZ that outside assistance is at the sole determination of the referee in charge of the meeting. I can assume from that, that exstiguishing a fire would be seen as a "safety" thing, and not actually as assistance? It's probably a rule that DOES need clarifying, but until it is (and as I say, the members have refused to do this in the past) the referee can only work within the rules as they stand now. I'd be more worried about the use of the wall to advantage, and the fact that allowance seems to have been made for the track being wet, which is NOT within the rules. The rules just state you are not to do it. Was still a good night however......

Wainman should have been removed aswell. The last race was wall ride city.
That I can remember there were 3 questionable actions.
1. Wainmans wall riding to catch Rees. 2. No removal of Rees despite assistance with fire and a possibility of an unsafe wheel guard. 3.Scott Miers wall riding to gain substantial advantage.
You can call 2 in to question as there is no black and white rule pertaining to fire and assistance in putting out fire but 1 and 2, the 2 instances of wall riding they both clearly affected the outcome of the race so in my mind the next highest finisher should have won. Be it palmy or GB.

So he was removed for the wall ride or damage?
If he was removed why was Scotty not removed?
This is where the consistency clearly falls short and is unacceptable.

I would expect putting my burning car out so I can continue racing would be clearly outside assistance.
If it is as you posted 'at the discretion of the Ref' I will revert to my original claim it was a poor call by the Ref.

lol Frank the Tank a Panthers defence lawyer Just trying to add some balance! Easy to be one-eyed! How about the good racing last night? How good was Barry P in a pretty average car? Not many people would be crazy enough to lend Mike Mac a car! That man nows how to hit HARD! What about Hammond's hit on himself and Ward, that was huge! And his car is super strong. Rebels looked good after crusing through their two races with minimal damage. Will Nelson come undone with having one driver who is yet to teams race? Night two is going to be a cracker...

however with all that happened it wasnt as bad as last year ie one example 2 kings removed for hittiing on a red yet later A Panther hit 2 cars on a red which went *apparently* unseen was one incident not as band as last year ....yet we still have another night to go lol Just a reminder its call refs calls and decisions they have less eyes than the spectators also if they miss something they sometimes use the local steward upstairs for an opinion or if he saw something they didnt also no team Blatantly cheats to say they do is stupid however some driver do push the rules and 1 driver is particulary good at it has been pinged before. The abuse in the pits is uneeded and so is the attack on teams and drivers in here

I must admit the first race while it looked quite tame (bar the roll overs) looked extremely technical and well thought out by both teams for the first few laps. Rotorua got a break and ran with it and bloody well at that.
I hope the wildcats can stay together and build on it because they clearly can teams race and given time could contest quite seriously.

On a rain wet not shocked wall riding was being done... maybe it was done more then it should have been, am not sure and don't really care, it is a great sight with the speed, sparks etc lol
Lets talk about the GB and Bay cars using the grass more then the track in there match up.... hell one GB cut turn 3 out of his lap lol
At the end of the day it the refs call, other teams could put in a protest if they are not happy.
What would be good to see is the likes of minutes of the event taken and then made public so we can see what was talked about, protested etc.

NO hes ours and along with Mal sines does a great job. He did indeed to a sterling job, and to his credit, Russell was more on top of things too. Neither however noticed that Scott Duncan had been replaced in the Wanganui Warriors by Craig Humphries until Humphries was forced out of the race against the Tigers. Didnt know until after the race...sorry. and when they have helmets on darn hard to know whos who

Watching on speedbox I don't recall hear anything about after match relegation etc. Speedbox coverage was pretty good last night , camera work particularly good which is a far cry from just few short seasons ago. If I had any wish it was to be able to hear more of Minties infield contribution. The two voices we did hear were doing good stuff too.

Earlier on in the night Blair Cunningham removed his belts after the red come on when the auckland car was sitting on his bonnet. Then the officials helped him put them back on so he had a chance to try get his car out from underneath the auckland car. Blair's car wouldnt fire up after his belts were back on, as to why he was pulled off. So if pete removed his belts atleast there was consistency there.
I believe the call on letting rees continue was fine, it was just a safety matter and it looked liked pete was trying to wave them away because he was just trying to fire it up.
I really enjoyed last night, i have no idea how Graeme Ward drove off the track after that hit from Hammond, that was huge! And I really wish Ngatai had of carried on running in the HB vs Gb race, he could have taken that race away.

Lets look at what I got, Frankie waiman came off due to fuel pressure failure after the hit and hes was gutted. Rees had an exhaust fire from I could see, it was a good one with lots of flames and he was trying to restart. the fireman did go to both sides of the car to look at the flames, but they werent to bad, i dont know if he used the extinguisher or not sorry. Rees retarted but the car was stuffed. The wall running I didnt think was too bad, it was very wet out there and there bouncing off the walls rather than running them, if you watched the whole track. it was the same for both teams and the other option was to stop the race and then what. I will be also going to see Rod today and get his clarification which i will broadcast tonight at the track and relay to Barry and Paul for speedbox cheers Mintie
