Good on you mate for what you are doing . Building it up from nothing seems the way to go and doing it all yourself will make you feel a hell of a lot rewarded in the end . I sold my racecar 2 years ago and then got the bug again . I should have done what you have done instead of taking peoples word on what i have purchased . I have been shafted by almost everyone i have dealt with while putting my current car together. Almost worth writing a book . After all of the hard work you will at least know what you have got .. Enjoy it and have fun.

Thanks for the comments & support. I tend to agree, and I know exactly where you're coming from - the car needed alot more work that originally anticipated, which is why Im going to such extremes of cutting stuff out - I wont be the fastest but I'd at least like to be reliable and strong..
Going out for tea tonight, however girlfriend is still away so might get the front underrider bars done afterward.

Making good progress, a great representation of the amount of time race cars soak up Don't take this the wrong way but you may need to crank some more amps through your welder as from the photos there doesn't seem to be much heat transfer.

Thats cranked up fairly high - It is a cellphone pic with my garage lighting, but if you see for example the heat transfer going about 10mm in from the weld for instance on the right 'middle' section you can see the definite heat line. I have wire brushed it all in that pic too.

Not much of a update, but made a new front underrider bar - old one was undersized pipe and too narrow. Made a new one using the corners of the old rollcage bends and some new 50od pipe. Rearward braces replaced and removed some more random bits of 6mm plate..  Brother & I went to Pick-a-part. Scored a various range of parts for ourselves. Stub axles, calipers, and a steering box..

Got motivated today after having the plasma out for Tim.. Decided I'd tackle the rear caliper mount.. Cut out a template from cardboard, transferred to 6mm plate.. Drilled it, welded it and then added a small gusset to the back. Skyline 4 pot, with a Jeep front rotor - 15" wheel still clears due to the enormous hat height of the rotor. And its 5x114.3 stud pattern so no need to redrill unlike the commodore rotors I was looking at using! Just waiting on my wheels and then I can have it rolling again..

Inbetween house and crewing, reached a point where I had to make a decision. Mainly around shortening the diff. Faced with the prospect of having to shorten the diff, and stuck running shortened axles which means every time you break them you have to not only source originals but then turn round and machine them. Kinda defeats the purpose of building the car the way I'd intended.
All is not lost though, most parts will be transferrable........

running offset? why not get a factory offset diff like my car is running? doesnt cost anymore than buying a standard diff..mine was $150 including the box of beer for delivery

No, down the middle..
I dont want to go down the road of running 6 stud rear and 5 stud front - carrying twice as many wheels... (but being able to run a narrower Mazda b1600 diff)

most cars you cant run the rears on the front any how as the offset is often differant or the tyre size is differant we have gon to running a 6 stud outside rear on the mazda as the converted 5 stud was unreliable kept breaking

yeah on mine the offset will be different front to rear. no problem though, ive only ever had to change 2 flat fronts. 6 stud rear and 5 stud front.
