Not a big fan of watching ministocks but I know without them we wouldn't have half the stars racing now without them, its a cool way learning how to race when your young,in the old days it took a new guy or girl a season to get really fast now these young ones are fast straight away in the class they move to.

A bit harsh Parrot. I didn't like watching Roger Federer when he set out and was learning his trade. Now, given the opportunity I will watch every ball he hits. Mini sprints & mini stocks are learner classes to me too. It's your logic that makes no sense!

Another learning class closer to Sprintcars & Midgets would be 1/4 midgets & TQ's. I guess quite a few Sprintcars racers started in either of the learning classes.

Interesting that you dont like watching ministocks when its the future of the classes you claim to watch such as Daniel Thomas,Jamie Larson,Jarvis Tidd,Daniel Rogers just in the sprintcars registered to Auckland. If you dont like watching them when they race ministocks why do you suddenly like watching them now? That makes no sense it makes perfect sense to me, i dont like watching under 12 rugby either, but enjoy watching NPC, super rugby and the all blacks,

That makes no sense I hear there are big things to come next season for one of these drivers too, in both classes

That makes no sense I like watching them now because they aren't racing ministocks, but racing a class I enjoy watching. Lots of drivers have changed from classes I like to those I don't and I no longer watch them.

great sprintcar drivers like Owen Shaw and Keith Simpson raced stockcars in earlier days, I don't like stockcars either but enjoyed them in sprintcars.

you have to be subscribed to read it! Speedway could get louderOne of Auckland’s speedways will be permanently shut in March 2019, ending 90 years of racing at the venue-but that doesn’t mean the noise will stop. Western Springs Stadium is managed by Regional Facilities Auckland(RFA). However shutting the speed-way doesn’t mean the noise would stop, in fact it could mean quite the opposite, director of venue development strategy Paul Nisbet said. The relocation of speedway events could see the site stage up to 44 special noise events each year compared to the 28 currently permitted. Under the unitary plan, Western Springs was zoned as a major recreation facility, not as a motorsport precinct. It is proposed that all speedway operations would be moved to Waikaraka Park which was recognised as a motorsport precinct within the unitary plan. ‘‘RFA believes the sport of speedway and the interests of ratepayers will be better served by bringing speedway together in a single regional facility,’’ Nisbetsaid. Speedway promoter Greg Mosen said Waikaraka was not a viable option given the costs associated with the move.‘‘RFA initially came to a meeting with the Waikaraka people and ourselves and said it’s going to cost $40 million to build a purpose built facility at Waikaraka Park.‘‘We spent a year trying to pin that number back and we managed to get it to $26m. We just don’t think that is a good idea.’’At the end of May, Auckland Council would vote on the Long Term Plan and part of that would outline exactly what RFA can and can’t do. Mosen said he would continue to campaign for a lease extension to avoid cost to other ratepayer. Morningside resident Brian Moorwood said the speedway had been apart of his family for generations and didn’t want to see it moved to Waikaraka Park.‘‘Leave it where it is. My dad took me,I took my sons and my grandchildren. It’s an icon of Auckland family life.’’The annual cost to RFA of maintaining Western Springs as a venu was about $560,000.‘‘Any other use will cost the city less and is likely to generate significantly higher utilisation on this strategic asset for Auckland,’’Nisbet said.

I like how this guy Dale Budge states that There are major hurdles to jump to make that happen – one is an amateur sport while the other is not. Which one is which, guess he has never been to speedway and seen sprintcars, superstocks, modifieds, midgets, supersaloons ..... www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=12026056

A winning culture can turn around fan numbers very quickly. This season will see Eden Park become an even bigger Blues Elephant while Mount Smart will get a full house this Saturday night, and possibly for the next three weekends in a row (at least). Ba;rry B word" Fickle" Barry B comes to mind, when it comes Aucklanders supporting there own sporting events.. where's springs speedway has core of fans turn up week in and week out regardless who wins.. even with price increase still doesnt stop fans coming through the gates. 102,000 fans is indication of that do the math for 11 shows this past season. not bad return

From what I am reading he has no clue what so ever. His figures are out too as they dont include the $5 a car for car parking ;Thats a good $100,000 there for Council if not more

I was wondering the same as petrolfumes carpark money is a big money maker for the council. Is Mosen using that as a tool? Does he have neighbours on his side? Is he having meetings with the neighbours telling them why speedway should stay? Who would really know. Before the warriors got to extend their contract to stay at Mt Smart I seem to remember seeing a TV news item with Buckley keen to move. If they had of been all for staying from the start they may have their way by now.

I sure hope that the two don’t merge at one venue. If they do then we will miss out on a great opportunity to further develop better racing. What I mean is open up on track add a little banking similar to Parramatta as example. Great for Open Wheelers, Saloons, & Modifieds but unfortunately not so great for Stockcars. I enjoy Stockcars but I like the other classes better. The track would need to be developed more toward the majority not the minority in my opinion. Open Wheelers / Saloon etc in the north island do not have a decent wide open space to show what they are really capable of with a realistic curfew. Trying to please everyone just won’t work. I vote leave as is.
