I got $ to collect on 1st
Jamie Larsen was the class of the field all night. The only thing that would have stopped him was being taken out by lapped car (which almost happened a couple of times)

Was certainly lucky with the car that spun in turn 1, looked like he may have touched the wall but got away with it Track surface looked smooth, no ruts or holes to speak of & the small tyre races between the heats & main looked to have removed a lot of the rubber from the track Only 1 actual crash, so much for the predicted smashfest

Caleb Baughan flipped his car in turn one on lap one and totalled it. Not his fault, just in the wrong place. He had a few choice words about the format and it being cut back for one day. He threw a few colourful in the heat of the moment.
Palmy is a hard track, but do you really want every track to be a cookie cutter of the same thing. Everyone has the same track in front of them, and to be the best you have to win in all conditions. Everyone kept it pretty clean, I was impressed.
At least being there, the battle of Pickens and Larsen navigating through traffic was entertaining viewing. It was using all their skill to continue to do that and keep their cars in one piece. They were the class of the field tonight. I had hoped that Pickens could have got a bit closer to Larsen, so we could have seen them battle wheel to wheel. I'm not sure that Larson would have been able to keep Pickens behind him.
I hope the promoters reflect on how tonight went. I think in hindsight they'd have done things differently. I still had a good night out and am glad I made the trip up from Wellington.

I really enjoyed my night in the Manawatu. Track was on point and they weren't scared to spend a bit of extra time to maintain moisture levels.
Larsens season just gets better and better. Great drive tonight and a deserving winner. Pickens was maybe a tad faster in open air but in traffic Larsen had the better running. Wood a strong third and for a moment threatened to unseat Pickens.
Stockcars provided excellent support, Supers provided the noise and the variety of teams racing. Overall a well run show and a podium that reflects the top drivers in the class.

Well how about that. 2 lanes with larsen, pickens and wood running around the top. Only 1 crash thru the whole night. It is a very narrow track but all the drivers adapted and i reckon it was one of the best races anywhere in nz this season. And a response to aliters post caleb baughans car wasnt totalled. They wheeled it onto the trailer. A couple of wings a push bar and a tail tank and it will be as good as new. He did sound a bit pissed when interviewed. It wasnt his fault but accidents do happen.

Congrats to Jamie. Has had a good season. Does he still run the mini sprint?
That snap of the crash looked big. There will be more damage than mentioned for sure. Just glad he's okay.
Pickens wait continues it appears. Not quite good enough again. Was he gracious in defeat??

Yes Barry Butterworth won the nz sprintcar champs at Te Marua Speedway in 1981. Kerry Jones and wako have 8 each? A few others with 3, RB, Annan etc. Jamie with 2 now. It's good the class has grown. Back when wako and Jones were winning they were mostly running at the springs and ruapuna.
