Well. Certainly a few hiccups to get over i think. But it is a new crew. No commentators that i could hear. Actually couldn't hear much. The lime they have mixed into the track has certainly firmed the track up. Very challenging for drivers and car setup i think. Yes was a bit dusty but have seen much worse. Certainly no cushion now to drive off. The 10 o'clock curfew now is a bit of a shock but we were to get 12 meetings before the rain spoiled that. But was still a great night. Curfew is 10.30pm as per information that has gone out to all drivers by Western Springs

I think they had a tech issue with the PA system but don't know for certain. In the past, the fireworks were height limited due to proximity to the Zoo which limits their use of the better ones... Agree with the track, it was so hard that all of the marks from the sheeps foot roller were still there at the end of the night.

Track was hard alright. Watched the water truck turn off the track didn't even leave a mark.

Track was hard alright. Watched the water truck turn off the track didn't even leave a mark. before wheel packing we were taking bets if the water truck would make it around, the drive wheels were spinning and the truck was just moving. Maybe now the new management will realise why the previous promotion did not use the stadium PA but had other speakers placed at the bottom of the fence all around the track.

Well i cant comment on to much ,but the use of a sheep foot roller ,lime stabilizer , conserve water ,some one must be experimenting in building a new motorway system for fast traffic between Wacky Park and the Springs ...

A number of issues arose last night, all of which seem fixable.
It's clear between practice and last night that the track crew require upskilling both in what they are doing before the show and during the show. They need to loosen up the top layer so it can be flicked to the outside and then solidify the higher line by adding moisture. PA failure was embarrassing but fixable.
On the positive, the show ran quickly through the middle stages. To be done racing by 9:40pm was pleasing. There didn't seem to be too many dramas in terms of running the show.
I think most fans will accept one dull show but they won't accept a second such show. Improvements need to be made for the next night in two weeks time.

So if they used lime to solidify the clay and on Saturday night it was too solid, I dont know what can be done to reverse the situation. It's not like it will wash out...
Also, depending on what and how much they used, that won't be very good for spectators if the dust contains lime that they sat and breathed in for a few hours.

I think most fans will accept one dull show but they won't accept a second such show. Improvements need to be made for the next night in two weeks time. Given they had an extra week to prepare for the opening WTF were they doing not testing things like the PA? The track produced boring racing. I really hope they can get it right and quickly. I realise it’s a fine line between finishing too early and coming up against curfew but 9:40 felt too early for me.

Unfortunately I overheard the guy in charge of the track at both practice and opening night patting himself on the back to people saying how good the track was etc. It was flat, but man it was so hard and slick.

If the hard track keeps up i think will be a few new tyre compound changes. Jamie McDonald's rear was screwed when finished the feature. And from spectator point of view no one wants a follow the leader style race.

watching the above video was first time hearing the commentary, who is the guy with Phil Dark? Likewise. Heard nothing track side. Phil Dark is the only name in the program as commentator. We will have to keep guessing.

Agree there. Let's hope they are watching here and listen to the fans. Could end up with a few frustrated drivers too.

Compared to what we had 12 months ago at the 1st meeting of the season track wise I'll take this one, no drivers staging a protest over the state of the track. No drivers in hospital with serious injuries. No grader doing more laps than the cars. 1st night where car owners and drivers arent blowing a big chuck of their budget is a bonus will hopefully mean more see the full season out.
