The Springs faithful may need to eat humble pie and come cap in hand to their poor cousins across town at Waikaraka to try and get some meetings run for their classes. What a dick cheese thing to say Waikaraka has never been anything other than welcoming to the cuzzies from across town. However given the comments that regularly appear on here from individuals who are obviously Springs supporters, I reckon Jamo is quite within his rights to say what he did

I hate to hear this. Is nothing wrong with any track. Let alone Waikaraka Park. People need to get over themselves. From all the Waikaraka Park meetings I've been to they have always put on a good track and a great meeting. Speedway is Speedway at the end of the day.

Their guys don't get to run there every meeting as it is. There is plenty of racing at coming up at Baypark, Kihikihi, Stratford, Palmy North, Harrisville, Te Marua and Ruapuna for the sprintcars and midgets.

or run sunday meetings at wacky park !! Onehunga has grown hugely in population over recent years through so called town houses ,and noise is constantly monitored under the RMA ACT ,.. The ASSCC may have a consent allowable to run Sunday ,but the people of the district may enforce there opposition to it if they get annoyed ...

Fully agree that it is crap to stand down classes by up to 50% compared to what they have down in recent seasons. This is what western springs management did this year and maybe this is karma. Tracks need to work together and release classes as appropriate and stand them down in order to get their classes and a new crowd. But don’t forget your grass roots. Looking forward to seeing how this pans out

Just because Waikaraka has less restrictions no need to push things.

I'll never buy ticket bundles again trying to save a few $. Each meeting I've attended this season has probably ended up costing me over double the gate price. Oh well.

The promotion would normally get over $3,000 from us in a season - this year they will be lucky if they got $200. Even if they had got the full season in they would have only for $1,000. A business model driving people away was already not sustainable - now top it off with flooding and no racing.
Wonder what sponsors are going to ask back and what impact this wil also have on current promotion? Tough economic and business times

Really isnt worth it buying season passes, better off paying at the gate. your at the mercy of Aucklands fickle weather, each Rainout meeting your loosing out so initial saving you thought were getting. turns out be costing you more in the long run. same way people thought were saving money purchasing online,, actually costing you more than gate prices. all just big con.

Full Facebook post as follows
NORTH ISLAND MIDGET CHAMPS & NZ TQ GRAND PRIX FEBRUARY 18TH After a frantic day of organising yesterday we can now confirm that these two events will take place at Waikaraka Park on Saturday February 18. This would not have been possible without the cooperation of SNZ and of course the Waikaraka club. We owe the committee at Waikaraka a huge thank you for moving so quickly on this, you have been awesome.
Further details of the night will be released as they are confirmed, but on top of around 25 Midgets entrants and the same in TQ’s we are working on some other pieces that should make this a great night of Speedway entertainment.
While there has been much chatter around running future events at Waikaraka or other tracks under a range of weird and wonderful concepts, sometimes theory and reality are poles apart. Firstly Waikaraka already have a full race calendar and an obligation to their own members, as they rightly should have. Secondly we do not want to compound what is already a tough situation brought about by the substantial loses of property and revenue at Western Springs due to the flooding, by putting on financially unsustainable events just for the sake of going racing.
If you want future racing in Auckland this season forget the hundreds of conspiracy theories and fanciful ideas, deal with the immediate problem by simply by getting in behind the February 18 event. Showing your support by turning up on February 18 at Waikaraka Park to enjoy a great night of racing will help set the tone for more meetings in the future.
Thanks, John

I would suggest before beating the drums for more meetings including Sundays, refer back to Wade Jennings 48A super saloon [ theycallme wade]. When he drew up the plans for the redesign of Waikaraka Park and negotiated a 30 yr lease you may recall he said had to be done gently so as not to require rezoning as this is where the neighbours will put in objections to the parks operation. Think Wade worked closely with local community board It is a case of not cutting off your nose to spite your face. Think he also said about value of place and over certain figure comes under the organisation that operate Eden Park, Mt Smart etc not community council Think Springs and Waikaraka work in harmony and not raise ripples which the cash strapped council will get out the pruning shears and bye bye just like Pukekohe
