bopwaikato wrote all i said in posted deleted Looking through the security log I can tell you no posts were deleted from this thread . One thread was removed from the open wheel board at 12.19 am this morning by Aaron but I don't know what that was about . I think that was it Gordon........I believe it was a new thread about last night's meeting. It certainly seems as if some of the American's had a few things fall their way, as if they need any help ;D

It was indeed a good night however we were let down by the timing system failure. I have a real issue with the Springs about the crowd not being catered to adequately by the announcing team. And while I hate to harp on about it how the commentary seems geared to the television programme and internet at the expense of those that paid $25 to get in, last night we were let down again. Why weren't we told who was coming out on track for the time trials. The reason I'm upset about this ... 1) We had a huge crowd of "samplers" there last night. People that wouldn't normally go to Speedway who wouldn't have had a clue about what was going on out there. 2) When I arrived a 6.15 all the programmes had sold out at the top gate and I shared one with a cobber I sat with. 3) There were three cars in the time trails that weren't in the programme. Now because, like you fellow MacGorians, I'm passionate about my Speedway, I want everyone else to be too. So when we get new people through the gate we need to "inform, educate and entertain" them. As time trails are basically boring with one car on the track at a time we need to tell these newbees what's going on ... and last night we failed to do that. Around where I was sitting (hemmed in), the punters were really restless during this "event", talking amongst themselves, going off to get beers and hot-dogs etc. We wasted a great oppotunity to win some new hearts last nght. Yes I know there are noise restrictions and the timekeepers were on the infield. But why weren't they given an R.T. to relay the times to Jamie and why couldn't he give us a quick, "This is .. and that was .. and his time" ? Oh, and one other thing related to noise etc .. There was a big laugh at the promos expense when Matt Gunn popped up on the "big screen" to give away a bottle of bourbon and just as he was about to ask the question ... the sounds was killed for the start of the next race. I could've done with that J.D. ... darn the City Council sound Nazis.

A big congratulations to Karen Holden who I understand did almost all the lap scoring on her own. (with a caller) Such is her skill when the system crashed it was a case of no worries I'll do it. More than 20 years experience.

BOP, Barry, Gordon.
What we are trying to acheive on this board is not having four threds on the same topic. BOP decided that he was going to start a new thred on the Boxing Day Meeting, which was one line of negative feedback which he is entitled to make, but why I ask does it need a new thred? He is able to make his comments about the meeting in an exisiting thred.....
Not trying to be difficult just don't want the board full of double threds of the same subject.

Agreed. Time trials are an important time for the anouncers to excel. I like the time trials though and wont leave my seat. A chance to mention ALL the sponsors and provide info about the driver and thier history. Plus they get a chance to yell "QUICK TIIIIIIIIIMMMME!" It must be a testy time for the drivers too, luck of the draw and the track is different for the first out and the last out. Just adds to the drama. The pressure is on not to make silly mistakes cos there is no one else around to blame.

Aaron, it's not that unusual to have seperate preview/review threads, as it saves those only wanting to know what actually happened on race night, having to wade through pages of predictions etc first.
I'm sure ultimately it will be Gordon's decision on how the Board over all, and each sub-Board, is run (or what it is "trying to achieve") anyway, and not us mere moderators.

I can go with the idea of one thread for a topic but when someone strays then either lock the new thread with a pointer to the existing thread or copy and paste the post to the thread you want it in . It is important that we allow and encourage open discussion whenever possible , whether we agree with what's said or not .

Yep I was a little disappointed by the announcers as well, I had newbies beside me and had to tell them who the drivers were and what was going on the whole nite. They had such an awesome crowd there last nite however they didn't seem to work it .I felt it was very flat, more exiting at Palmy and Wellington.

Thing is you only get 3 big races(Feature-Sprintcars, Midget, TQs) in the night as all classes are divided in to smaller groups

Macgor said ..."It is important that we allow and encourage open discussion whenever possible , whether we agree with what's said or not ." Aaron there's a lot on here I disagree with, but mate, that's what these forums are all about. Once upon a time, old farts like me would ring Murray Deaker to have a go .. but now we have specialist forums to vent on. It's cool bro ... let the love flow.

well what a night, would rate as one of the worst meetings i have been to , those poor kids in the the kiwikids kids class absolutly get a raw deal at the springs they spend plenty of money each week getting to the track to go racing, turn up open the programme and see they only have one race absolute bulls@@t on the springs behalf , these kids are the future of open wheel racing in nz and they get treated like s@@t!!! the time trials were a joke ( wouldnt of had that problem if they used the triditional kiwi format , but hey kiwis are always trying to imitate the rest of the world, and also wouldnt be pushed for time ) the racing in all the classes was crap to many quarter full classes, put them all on the track as someone above said and the finals were the best races of the night, if these guys are the best why put them off the front? make them work for their wins put them throughout the pack with full fields , not sure about this but seen dollansky was dqed last week for working on the car why was carl wilson not dqed ( or was he ) after his crew changed tyre pressures during the big pileup in the feature, commentary not sure what was up with that but as others have said would have been nice during the boring qualifing must say the food was awesome and the drivers were awesome to the son when we were down in the pits before the meeting, definatly was not worth $30 to get in though

From what i could see it was a open red which means crew were aloud to go out and touch the car. At Palmerston North Dollansky got Dqed for touching car on Yellow. The red light down there was a closed red as pit gates were left closed.

The red light down there was a closed red as pit gates were left closed. i seen some dude ( coc ? maybe ) come over in golf kart and tell him something and he pointed to the wheel thing that he had taken off and then put it back on and left, i think the gates were only opened for the ambulance to come out as the other crews stood about a metre from there cars not wanting to touch

You're kidding! Perhaps the spintcar feature should have been canned altogether - so as to give these kiddies more time to play with their toys. From a fan who traveled far the sooner promotors ban this type of dull lifeless class that do nothing but water down the quality of major shows the better.

Yes the KiwiKids get well treated at the Springs, and they do get to run at other tracks like Rosebank regularly, so I don't think they are missing out at all. Still haven't sorted through my photos from Boxing Night, didn't take any action shots, but here are shots of the Salter cars of Dollansky and Saldana for those who haven't seen them. Will maybe post a few more pit shots later.
