The retired Tommy Rusher??? Lets hope so Barry because Tommy=Entertainment I don't think the format will matter for the likes of Dollansky and Saldana, they will produce the goods regardless.

They are running american format for whole series. Which is the way it should be,as the "local" format that so many seem to favour, rewards luck of the draw and nothing else.

I'd hate to see this format all of the time though, as variety is the spice of life. It will usually produce the right winner, one who is good at all disciplines on the night, but can also sometimes have the effect of only producing one good race per night as well............

Barry, put down the egg nog and lets get real here. The outlaw format is good its all up to the driver, if he performs hes on the front.....

Barry, put down the egg nog and lets get real here. The outlaw format is good its all up to the driver, if he performs hes on the front..... Bang on the money Aaron. The "outlaw" format means you have to be on your game right from the word go regardless of what position you draw for your qualifying run. The majority of the Kiwi boys could take a leaf out of the pros book and spend more time reading the track before qualifying,to get a setup as close as possible to what is needed, rather than missing it entirely and starting the night off with no chance of anything other than a C or B main start. Time trialing well makes life a lot easier, sure you get seeded backwards in your heat but at the end of the day you may only need to pass one car to end up in the dash and the worse case scenario is you wont start worse than 10th,add in the fact that the car has only done a few laps in anger and the chance to follow the track and lock in your A Main setup is a luxury those in the C and B dont have. On boxing night if the chance arises, watch the pros and see how they constantly have an eye on whats happening with the track, after all the track is a living and breathing beast that is constantly changing and its impossible to keep up with the play if your arsing around in the pits.

I think Barry makes a fair point.
I wouldn't want to see it used every night either. Whilst it does produce a fair winner more so than other formats I don't believe it carries the same entertainment value as other formats.
The format examines a drivers credentials over Time Trials, Heats and Feature racing, being the three disciplines of the sport. It does not require drivers to pass a lot of cars. I'm ok with seeing it for the big championships but like Barry I wouldn't want to see it week-in week-out.
I think it will work better than it did at the North Island Champs given the Americans have arrived in en masse.

The format can only ever work in a series like this or the National Title, where enough cars are in the pits to make it viable.
Trying to run the format on a weekly basis at any track in NZ running 410s would be a complete waste of time as the format is designed to work with more cars than any track in NZ can muster and the amount of time that is wasted due to the tracks not being suitable for running TTs anyway, means more people turn off the format than turn on to it.

With 2008 slowing down and coming to a close that will be far from the truth this Boxing Night at Springs Speedway in Auckland. We will see Round 3 of the International Thunder Down Under Sprintcar Series and a chance for the 30+ sprintcars crowding the pit area to qualify for the 2009 'MyRaceLife.com World Challenge' held at the Knoxville Raceway every August........................ Barry, put down the egg nog and lets get real here. The outlaw format is good its all up to the driver, if he performs hes on the front..... Agreed..................but it's not always good for the spectator. I'm just saying I prefer variety in my racing. Maybe you don't, but personal preference has very little to do with getting "real".......

As long as it is good racing it doesn't matter what format is run.
Lets get on with it, enjoy the racing and stop the bickering on this website.

I think it will work better than it did at the North Island Champs given the Americans have arrived in en masse. It didn't really work at the NI's due to the massive advantage the late runners had due to the surface being substantially faster for the last quarter of the runners when compared to the first quarter, followed up by a decidely one-laned race track for the heats. At Palmy the middle-drawn runners in the time trials seemed to have an advantage, but the cream still rose to the top there. Even if we had 40 cars every Saturday night, I would not want to see this format every weekend.
