Couple of things from last night? Alec Wilson was driving hemis car in the repocharge. And why was in the R v W after Steiners massice shunt which was a little amatuer from the W perspective was a W car push started then allowed to continue? I think the push start thing has been well covered, and I suspect everybody is correct. If the track crew asked the offending car to move and/or shut down while the medics saw to Steiny, no problem with helping him to restart. Although one Welly car was later excluded for outside assistance. Was this the car (52w?) And yes, pretty sure Alec Wilson was in 72p, not 591p. Also I have no problem with a car being sent off with no bonnet. It's black and white. There did seem some wierd red lights and decisions again this year though, although to be fair MOST are understandable once explained. Here's my questions (on a night that overall went pretty well and was devoid of any major controversies); The two 3 minute bells in Wellington's second race, when the gate was reopened after warmups to allow Keegan Levein onto the track (which I didn't think was allowed as point 1), THEN, as point 2, they allowed him a 3 minute bell after they'd already had one for the opposing team. How did this happen? How was Nelson allowed to run illegal numbers? (When even the Poms changed their cars during the week after WP) Why isn't the 3 minute bell displayed on the big screen? (The first one seemed extremely long, and as much as we like to see cars on the track the officials need to be SEEN to be fair) Why did they red light the race for Dale Roberston and (I think it was) Paul Vazey? They were hooked up sure, but way off the racing line half way down the straight. Then they stuffed around letting the top car try and remove himself while Robertson did nothing. Then they brought in the tow truck to lift the top car off. Then they sent the truck away and let Robertson remove himself from underneath and THEN both cars were allowed to continue. The whole chapter seemed a little farcical.... Another red light in Wanganui's second race, with a Rotorua car on the bonnet of a V car out by the wall. Sure, on the racing line but weren't the only two other cars mobile at the time both from Wanganui? The chances of anybody collecting them were pretty remote, and unnecessary red lights certainly break up the flow of the night for those trackside and the growing band of streamers. I hope Steiny and Lala are okay. Barry B

It came across the P.a that Alec was in the 591p just for the run off. Pressumig that's why he had an impressive spin when the Reds came on and he tried to stop.
The welly car that was restarted was after he had backed himself away from the car. Was a little farcical to me.
All the best for Ashton and Stiener as they were massive hits the took.

Agreed, the lack of bonnet thing is a fire hazard plain and simple, but after an official checked, then let the warriors car continue with a sway / anti roll bar trailing behind and bouncing off the track was asking for trouble. Maybe who you know, not what you do?

If that's correct, who was driving 72P? I thought on the stream, which is the track commentary as well, that it said Alec in 72p, and the Palmy website says that was the case. Barry B

Hemi was in his own car & Alec Wilson was in 72p, on the cool down lap it was Hemi's red arm out the window giving 72p the thumbs up. Not that sure any of the other mustangs are short enough to fit in 591p

I think I need that bingo board for Russell's commentary. Alec was in 72p and hemi in his car according to PN Speeeway website. Have to say it did look like Alec driving it but anyway...

Just a thought. A couple of notable teams racers chose not to compete this weekend. But was there actually so much action on the track last night that they weren't really missed? Someone else got off topic and a warning ,was issued ,,so are you heading for the wooden spoon award for the weekend

At the risk of sounding like a conspiracy theorist/broken record/over zealous fan I find it incredible that the name Rees was not mentioned at all over the PA all night. Not saying reference to recent issues but surely he is past feats would have come up as indeed mention of other past greats did. or when referring to those who helped the Lions - his name went missing. Were the comentators under instruction not to say the name and is that a sign of just how bad the blood is now between driver and track?
How great was it however to see Scott Tennant with Rees emblazojed over the bonnet as he replicated Pete Rees's drive vs Rotorua with smoke everywhere (that topped Pete) to get his team through.

On another note, does 3 hospitalized injuries worry us for the future of teams racing? Surely thats going to draw some attnetion of those who are worried for the safety of our sport.
I hope not but recent decisons with individual racing suggests teams may also need an overhaul.

Someone else got off topic and a warning ,was issued ,,so are you heading for the wooden spoon award for the weekend I was very careful in how I worded my comment Midway - I made sure I referred to last night's action, which on a discussion thread about last night's action is totally kosher!

That certainly was a Reesesque drive wasn't it. Full noise the whole way, just smashing anything and anybody to one side that dared to attempt to slow or halt his quest for victory. Barry B

Barry B It was indeed a great drive, but it might have come at the expense of an engine. Scott shut the car down as soon as he'd finished the race, and was pushed around on the victory lap. And it was noticeable that only four Auckland cars came out for the second race, with 29A sitting it out in the pits. Jordan Dare also drove a great race against Nelson, and Shaun Pearson drove brilliantly for two wins from two. But my driver of the night was 15V Kyle Heibner; he put in some enormous hits, and more than covered the absence from the first two races of Dion Mooney. And that leaves the coast clear for a well-rested Mooney to come off the bench tonight with his fuel pump problems sorted and cause mayhem

Yes, 15V was definitely my driver of the night last night too. One roll, two spectacular wallings, big effort.

Just a few points from last night:-
1. Kyle Heibner has certainly added the x-factor to the Warriors. It's not only Podjursky & Mooney that teams have to worry about now. 2. Karl Ross was very very impressive also for Baypark. Foot to the floor & super slick. 3. Carl Hodge has a reputation now, which was evident in both Auckland races where I don't believe he completed a lap ending up the wall on both occasions - opposition teams now factor him in to their equations. Scott Tennant looks the good though - fearless :-). 4. For a newbie Quinton Butcher did some very intelligent work for the Hawkeyes - making a general nuisance of himself when needed. That Hawkes Bay team has a nice balance to it. 5. The Nelson supporters will be disappointed - particularly against the Mustangs when all four cars were running for the flag - oh to have a Brendon Higgins back in the saddle. 6. Hang in their Rotorua fans - your luck must change soon. Nice machinery, good drivers but just don't get the rub of the green. 7. The Wildcats have a bright future - led by Dale Robertson they will only get better with experience. 8. The track between turn 3 & 4 developed some big ruts on what was a generally soft surface. By the last 2 races, drivers had to get it right or they risked breaking more than just their cars. 9. A suggestion to the commentary team - try not to deliver points & drivers news while there are cars still circulating on the track. It makes it hard to pick up what is going down. 10. And finally - all the best to the drivers needing medical attention. The hit up the rear on Lala was sickening - I'm not surprised to hear he has broken vertebrae.
Roger Morrison.
