I don't normally add to these threads but I felt I should share a couple of things. Sorry if this is a bit long first of all A guy at work who goes to speedway about twice a year said to me when he heard the NZ Stockcar champs ad on the radio "is that bloke in the orange car gunna be there?" I said "mate not only will he be there but over 150 other cars will be as well" His reply to that, "I don't care if there were only 5 cars going to be there, as long as that orange one will be there, so will I, the kids think he's cool" Now to the Barry family, Thank you so much for sharing your Husband/father with us. I know we, thru our love of watching great racing, made demands on his time, time that could have been spent with you. I hope you guys got as many kicks out of watching Peter entertain us, as we did .... cause boy did we ever get our kicks out of watching him. One last final story that is a testament to the man. There are some drivers who I talk to, in person, on the phone or thru e mail. We invite them to race here in Welly and the first thing they say is "Awww its 3 hours (or however long) each way, I dunno its a hassle to go all that way." After the NZ's I was talking to Peter and told him we love having him down here. He said "yeah It's fun coming here, and so easy to get to, its only 3 and half hours so we will be back a few more times this season." The man would drive to the moon and back to do some racing, and then when he got there he would turn it on for your crowd. So it with great sorrow we, as speedway community farewell one of those who make it worth doing what we do. Love to the family left behind Al

Just want to add to the huge messages, I rec'd the news this morning and must admit it hits you hard when it's someone from your track. What a great competitor and friend to so many throughout Meeanee and NZ. Always friendly and a pleasure to deal with when signing in at the stewards office. Peter - you were taken to the big race track in the sky too soon, you still had plenty of racing to do here!! Show them up there how its done eh, R.I.P. Peter I am sure I speak for the other SNZ Staff at Meeanee when I say : Our thoughts are with you Andrea, Olivia, Robert and Sam at this time. Melissa Asst Stwd SNZ/Meeanee.

Really sad news I only met pete once on my first night trying to drive a stock car. I parked beside him, what an awesome friendly guy. After my first race was one of the first guys to offer assistance as clearly I had alot to learn and loaned me gear for the night. All the best to the family I am so sorry for your loss.
