Nigel, How can it clash with 2 Major Events? The Steve Williams DHL Series is INVITATION ONLY with 16 Cars. There are more than 16 Saloon Cars nationwide. Why should the board give way to this series for a handful of picked competitors?

Not sure if I agree Nigel, NZ Champs do take priority, always fun to do the DHL series but really do we change everything to suit a private invitation event?
NZ Saloons will alway struggle to pull a crowd worth the cost of putting it on and suggest the days after New Years in the Mount are prime times for a big crowd, I know the 2nd of Jan is always a big one. Holiday makers are around and will always swell numbers, after the 1st anyway once they sober up!
Maybe Saloons should be proud to get a time frame where you can show off the class to a big crowd. Good time to travel with families as well.
Just me but I don't buy into the whole conspiracy theory of "Willie hates us"
Now are the Supers racing on both nights!

Im with Nigel here. WHY has BayPark done this once again. There's already a great event scheduled for January 1st and we dont need another scheduled. (Especially with tracks not even an hours drive from each other). A FULL field of cars is much better than a FEW to watch. So dont disappoint the events that are already scheduled to run, and have done so for how long now. Let the DHL & Paradise Valley have their yearly January 1st events. The DHL Series which Steve Williams organises, is all about promoting the Saloon Class with having 16 Top Saloon Car Drivers competing and travelling the Island. How many other classes do this - NONE -. So give us another date BayPark so these saloons can also compete.

Well our decision is already made....If invited onto the DHL again this year we will definately go and miss out the NZ Champs. The DHL is an amazing event and heaps of fun. After speaking to Phil Towgood this afternoon, he has said the same thing. A shame really, but personally we are into Speedway for fun and its not all about 1,2 or 3nz for us. Louana Skelton 59a

Louana Skelton 59a This has to be the most self righteous load of rubbish I have read on this board, so you and the other 15 drivers that have been invited to your (Steve's) private event, want every other Saloon in NZ to stand by while you have your fun and only then its ok by you to hold a NZ Champs......... So Phil, Steve and Co don't turn up for the Champs boo hoo!

I had to get out of the " Barn" for this one !!! What is wrong with the world....... It took YEARS for you guys to get an " OFFICIAL " NZ Champs for your class !! ..Surely no matter what other events are organised..... The NZ Saloon Champs have Priority.... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In-fighting already ( doesn't take long eh!!) Amazing what egos do for some !!!when they get recognised separately !! It seems all is not well with this class !!!!!!!! Maybe time to join the Super Ranks ? Cheers Wiseowl.......

Brian and Phill as individuals have been put in a position were they will have to make a desision about their racing scedule
so they've made their desision known then they are labeled as self righteous
and the class is riddled with in-fighting
What am I missing here??

I'm sorry Super Saloon 2NZ '07', but i don't think we're being self righteous at all, I have only stated that for us personally the DHL Speedweek is way more important and "fun" for us as a family, just ask anyone who has been priveleged to be involved in the DHL in the past. Louana Skelton.

This is a deliberate attempt by the Baypark Promoter to "shaft" the Class and the Board should have been well aware of this when approving the date. Steve Williams helped the Class reach National Status, and this is Pay Back. Simple as that. The Baypark Promoter will be wetting himself laughing when he reads this.

It's sure a shame for speedway as a whole when both the hard-fought-for NZ title, and extremely important and popular DHL Speedweek, can't both be fitted into what is now basically a 7 month speedway season.
Name-calling will achieve nothing, but let's hope something can be done to help both the competitors and fans of the class here.

excuse my ignorance but what is the other major event it clashes with? And has the DHL series been confirmed for dates and tracks for next season?

... has the DHL series been confirmed for dates and tracks for next season? There is absolutely no reason not to assume the traditional final DHL night at Rotorua, January 1, will not continue. I suggest that the only likely reason for the series not to take place and or finish as tradition would have it, would be if Steve Williams determined to pull the plug in response to a heirarchy that he may perceive doesn't appreciate his efforts - and the losers would be speedway. I accept that SNZ sanctioned Championships have in almost all instances, priority due to their status and spectator pulling power. However, in these early days of the saloons being a National Class, it's my opinion that the DHL series would have a larger following and be of considerable more benefit to speedway, than a 'SNZ Saloon Championship' event. My guess is that once the saloon class have become more ingrained throughout New Zealand (North and South), likely within the next two seasons, the Williams / DHL Series may well have achieved it's goal and be re-focused. The series begins Boxing Day and every night until Jan 1, subject to extra-ordinary circumstances. Willie Kay is very much aware of the significance of this saloon series to many tracks and towns, to many saloon competitors and spectators.

So Murray - what you are saying here is that YOU dont believe that the "Saloon" class should have a national title?...... Submit your letter if intent to SNZ so they can have the final say - somehow I dont think it would happen Maybe SNZ should drop the title in favour of the DHL series - yup sounds good - Do away with the National-regional class!!!
