SNZ approved this date.
Willie Kaye is a Director of SNZ, charged with developing the sport for the good of the sport.
After a number of actions, one as a competitor needs to decide whether his activities are furthering the sport, or just supporting WK or BP.
This year the Directors are up for an election. Its up to each driver to attend the remit meetings, and instruct there club who to vote for at the AGM.
Do you think WK should remain a director at SNZ? Use your vote either way.

Unfortunately it seems that Willy has done it again but I think that the answer is to push the date for Rotorua out a couple of days or maybe to the next weekend. The DHL guys will be hard to beat if they get 6 days racing before the NZ's wont they? I also wonder if the DHL hasn't done it's dash anyway, it's become the Steve and Phil show in the last couple of years and when it comes down our way there is no local cars so maybe not so much interest. Maybe a small change of format to see locals included might revive it a bit, how about a qualifying series, maybe with the upper north and lower north and south island having separate qualifying meetings? As one promoter down this way put it " it's a bit elitist" It's promoted as 16 of the top saloons in the country but in reality it's 16 people of Steves choice having some fun.

The simple solution is to let the Williams sycophants play amongst themselves and run the Title as scheduled.

i believe huntly had the tittle last season ,now i dont believe b\p jumped on the computer and slagged the timing of there event ,yet you have b\p putting on the saloon tittle at a prime time in tga and the mount when it is crawling with hoilday makers where the class can be show cased to a greater audiance yet b\p is percieved as shafting the class! those that have had there turn at the tittle need to pull there head in ,the same people that helped pull the class together look now like there focus is to pull it apart! its i bit like saying move a oz v8 round because the holden club is having a fun day on that day!

We had a great time following the DHL speedweek this season and would like to do the same next season($ and time off permitting). The NZ saloons is one meeting we hoped to attend next season, both because it is one of our favourite classes and because we have not been to Bay Park as yet. From a purely selfish point of view the answer to me is obvious. Have a 6 round DHL, stop for the NZ champs, then finish speedweek with a Saloon spectacular at Paradise Valley the next day. Have the final DHL round and a Paradise championship open to all and hopefully including the new 1, 2 and 3NZs. This way we have 9 days promoting this great class. The NZs pick up the traditional DHL spectators and the final DHL will pick up spectators who enjoyed the NZs. Drivers from the DHL can compete in the NZs and traveling Drivers at the NZs will have another great meeting to compete in with only a small addition to the budget. Everybody wins. Oops that right, I forgot that too many people in speedway don't like a win-win solution, but only want an I'm right, your wrong one. Silly me

[ Which directors are retiring, up for re-election? Is the million dollar question - also, who will we have to choose from, if an alternate is desired?I think the last election I went too, there were only enough directors for the positions. NO doubt the answer will be found in your rulebook Cr Guy. with the advances SNZ have undertaken this past 12 months, it will be interesting to see if there will be any other interested parties. I think the new President has certainly stepped up, and driven his vision of an open and transperant organisationt through. I wonder if that has at times conflicted with some directors wishes...Time will tell. cheers

Well, this is a controversial one. We would of course like to attend both as we have for the past 2 seasons. The DHL has been running for at least 6 years now, we have not been involved in all but have thoroughly enjoyed each and every one that we have been on. It is a good showcase for Saloons and regardless of what a lot of people say having Steve and Kirsty organising everything and co-ordinating with all the tracks involved makes it a very promotable event for all the tracks involved. I'm sure that at some tracks it has actually helped in having Saloons make a comeback. After talking to a lot of drivers on this years DHL I realised just how many cars have come and gone over the years. I think I counted at least 20 cars that have at one time or another been involved, that no longer, for one reason or another participate. Jeez Neville, did you forget your nice pills this morning??? As I recall, you were one of the originals in the DHL. The NZ Title is extremely important to us and not one to be overlooked. We fought long and hard along with all the other saloons in NZ to get national status and it is not taken lightly. I'm just not sure how we will fit both in. Believe you me, we will try our darndest to do both if possible.

I think what has been forgotten a little here is that without the DHL and everything that Series has done for the Saloon Class they may just not have become a National Class. The Series did a lot to boost numbers to a level where they surpassed the required number of competitors.
I also think that a lot of you have to be careful that those tall poppies in your gardens don't get to high, as they can kill off all the other plants.
Hopefully Steve and Willie can sort something out.

who has "reportedly"ed it? If true it solves the problem of the dates this thread was about - but very sad for the saloon class. Also if not around for 2 seasons then it probably wont after that either

Have heard no DHL, but maybe some NI cars racing in the SI at a later date so as not to clash with the NZ's etc. I'm sure more info will come out in due course.

According to Barry's list:
North Is Saloon Champs @ Rotorua, Dec 27th/28th 2009 (rumoured but unconfirmed)This would be an attractive outcome for visiting drivers from some distance (especially the South Island).Three to days sort cars, have a break, then an hours drive to Tauranga and Baypark for the NZ Saloon Champs, Jan 1 & 2. Hopefully Rotorua will confirm these dates ASAP to enable ferry and motel bookings to be made. All we need is Wellington Te Marua to hold the Saloon NZGP a few days before Rotorua or after Baypark!

Rotorua cannot confirm their dates as SNZ have to approve NZ's first (which they have) then the GP (which I'm usure if Welly have submitted a date yet) before they can confirm the date Rotorua wishes to stage the NI's.
