Not long now till the saloon class celebrates its new champion or maybe re-crown a past or present one. Who's it going to be the ever consistent Stick 1nz or one of the new cars out there gp champ Handbag 46a, C Cowling 271m or Ainsley 5t? or maybe with the old school with the likes of toooogood 2nz? The Rat 18m had a good skid on saturday coming from the back through to give the local top dog Rossco 77k a real scare. C Cowling has had more than his fair share of results in the past couple seasons and the Daltons Queen Michelle 75m always comes to win. 5 weeks and counting... hope as many saloon teams are preparing for the biggest party of the saloon class calander!!!! Party hard 10k

Looking good, Lets get those 100 entries
Did some numbers over the weekend at 4 NI tracks there were 60 Saloons racing
S x 30 K x 13 A x 9 G x 8
So add in the likes of say 15-20 more from M + H, R, B, W and SI should get pretty close.

With the NZs just a few weeks away, my picks are for the current 1NZ Brent McClymont to go back to back titles this year. I watched Brent take out the title last year in Wellington and was just brilliant to watch. He has the car, a KMAC Chassis , and obviously the right engine package as well, the crew, and family supporting him, and due to his experience, his vision, and the smoothness of the way he races, he will no doubt be the top contender once again on a track that will be dusty, and probably one lane traffic, as Kihikihi can be most of the time.
My 2nz would have to go to the youngster from my home town Gisborne . Daniel Corrin has come on leaps and bounds, with only a couple of years experience in a saloon car. You only have to look at the results he has had this year so far a 2nd in the DHL series, and 3rd in the GP, and especially coming from the repercharge to make the finals. With Daniel racing out of the mount this year, he is getting alot of racing experience with the big guns like Brent mcClymont, and the Cowling brothers and such like.A great decision from his father and crew. He will be a force to be reconed with, and hes not affraid to pass on the outside as well.
My 3NZ would have to go to Nigel Ross of Auckland. He has been around a while and now he has the right package of a race car, he has made inroads this year and especialy taken out the GP ahead of Stick. The same goes for Nigel, hes racing a KMAC Chassis and this package is obviously working for the saloon cars to date. Both Shane MacIntyre and his brother are the future in Super and Saloon car builders. Nigel has got better and better as the years have gone on, and i know myself from experience if you have the right package(ie car chassis, motor, etc) everything will fall into place and the results will keep coming.
So the Mount for 1NZ, Gisborne for 2NZ, and Auckland for 3NZ. thats how i see it.
Just my thorts.

If McClymont wins this year (which is highly likely) it might be time to step up to the Super Saloons next season..

We have only got 10 entries and they close on the 31st January .Shouldn't be to hard qualifying ,or finishing in the top ten . If you can't down load the entry form from the SNZ website or the Kihikihi website please ring me on 078881830 and I will mail you a hard copy . Kihikihi had a pretty good track on Saturday plenty of passing and no dust . Now Kihikihi did not do to well out of the last big NZ Champs and we don't want a repeat result .Obviously the more cars the better . Organising groups and support classes takes time so the sooner we know entry numbers the better ,so if you have a Saloon or know someone who knows someone with a Saloon please get on their case . Kihikihi Saloons have supported most tracks in the Country in the past , Heres your chance to support Kihikihi. I don't know who will be the new 1 NZ but it will be someone who has entered so please enter . Thanks and Cheers 77nz

I forgot to mention Doug Walsh thought it would be single lane . I think that being a night meeting it should not be any different than any other track holding a two day meeting with 101 entries ,we could make a movie 101 Dalsaloons . Cheers 77k

Do we know who has entered so far? I see you said only 10 but who are the 10?? After being there earlier in the year I would have thought that the numbers would be higher then 30 by now... Is this just a case of everyone getting in at the last minute??

Rossco, I really dont think you will have a problem getting the cars mate. Alot of the guys will be getting over the GP, and now will start looking at entering the NZs after accessing the damage and expence it would have cost to travel to Stratford.
If they had something like 30 cars at the GP last weak, theres no reason why you cant get up to 48 cars, and wouldnt that be great racing with 3 heats of 16 cars, then the top 6 from each group through to the finals, then one repercharge with the top two cars going though.
I can remember a few seasons ago we had 17 cars in each group at the old Gisborne track in one of our championship meetings, and it made the racing alot cleaner and was a great specticle for the public not seeing good cars getting takin out due to big numbers in the feilds.I dont think we even had a yellow light come on all night.
Five weeks to go, i think you will have more than enough cars, and racing at nighttime in Kihikihi will certainly be alot better for the track surface. Fingers crossed Rossco, i will be listening with great intent.
Doug Walsh
